Blossfeldia mixture - Dwarf Button Cactus

This is a group of miniature cactus that include the very smallest of all cactus species. Current research suggests that there is just one highly variable species, but as the variations appear to be passed on, the various names persist in cultivation and this mixture is offered on this basis.
These cacti come from Argentina and have a wide distribution, although the tend to be found in rocky crevices attaining a diameter of no more than 12 - 14 mm across the plants body. They flower in spring, the flowers being white, cream or pink. The seeds that follow have unique adaptations to allow for them to be dispersed via ants.
The seeds germinate rapidly and, although slow growing, the plants will flower within two years or so. As they develop, the plants will grow more and more 'heads'.
