Preparation:
The surface must be clean, smooth, dry and free from wax, dust and contaminants. Read
the full instructions on the tin. Our sheet on Renovating Floors contains further information. Nail
holes and small cracks may be filled with Rustin’s Woodstopping. Bare wood may be
dyed before coating with Rustin’s Wood Dye. Other brands of dye, stain or
paints may be incompatible. Do not apply Knotting or Sanding Sealer.
Application:
Using a synthetic brush or varnish roller, apply evenly and liberally, finishing in the direction
of the grain. When applying to power floated concrete or dense surfaces such as stone,
dilute the first coat 1:1 with water.
Coats:
Apply 3 liberal coats according to the coverage rate. More absorbent surfaces or
commercial premises may require 4 coats. Important: If there is any grain raising after the
1st coat has dried, lightly sand the surface smooth before applying the next coat.
Drying Time: Touch dry within 20 minutes depending on the temperature and humidity.
Re-coating Time: Re-coating Time 2 hours, depending on the temperature and humidity.
Application Temp: Ideally 15-25°C. Do not use below 10°C, or in conditions of high humidity.
Maintenance:
The coating will accept light foot traffic 2 hours after the final coat, and will take 3 days to
fully harden. During this period it should be protected from heavy wear and spills.
Afterwards the surface may be kept clean by mopping with a mild detergent solution. To
restore the gloss use Rustins Floor Shine. Worn areas may be recoated once cleaned and
sanded to provide a key, it is not necessary to recoat the whole floor.
Compatibility:
The coating may be used over the following Rustins products. Woodstopping, Wood Dye,
Floor Dye and wood may be bleached before coating with Rustins Wood Bleach.
Important: If any other products are used, such as timber treatments or other brands of
dye, stain or paints, these must be tested first for compatibility.
Settlement: Stir well before and during use. Satin finishes may dry glossy if not stirred or the Varnish Stains
will not dry to the correct colour .
Shelf-life/Storage:
Many years if stored in original, tightly closed container in normal conditions. Protect from
frost.
Hazards:
Non-flammable. Flash point: Nil. General good practice advice: avoid contact with eyes,
skin and clothing.
Clean-Up:
With water whilst still wet. If dried-on, clean equipment & brushes with either Rustin’s
Brush Restorer or Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Remover.
