Signed painting of a lovely female clown, very French.  Primary colors are oranges and red.  Etienne's works are sure to increase in price, especially after the recently published book about him:  Roger Etienne:  Journey in Search of an Artist by Dr. Mary Ruggiero.  (Available on eBay).  I have seen other renditions of this clown by Etienne but I find this one particularly pretty and sensitive, one of his best.

Roger Etienne is known for: impressionist landscapes, children, nudes, and clown paintings.  This painting is a gouache mixed medium on paper, it has scraps of French newspaper in the background. 19 x 23" overall size.  Signed on left side Etienne 1969.  The painting is currently in a simple frame behind glass but will be shipped flat without the frame unless you specifically want the frame.  Shipping cost quoted is for unframed picture. Shipping in the frame will add to the shipping cost, please ask me what cost would be to ship it framed.  I bought this painting directly from the artist in the early 1970's.

Roger Etienne was born in Belgium in 1922.  He is a well listed and popular French impressionist who worked in a variety of media, oil, gouache, pastel and or charcoal, some of his paintings are a collage with pieces of French newspaper incorporated in them as this one has.
He has worked at Pablo Picasso's workshop and Marc Chagall may have commissioned him to do work for the Paris Opera House.  Reportedly he has had work in museums in Paris, Zurich and Brussels. Etienne lived and was active in both France and the USA. He later lived in Los Angeles and passed away in 2011.
