Offered in this sale is most interesting antique (I think) black lacquer and gold gilt paper mache small Chinese stacking box that I am guessing was designed for pills, spice or perhaps just storage. It separates into five sections. There is a paper label on the inside of the bottom section which you can see illustrated in the 2nd image.. Its a small piece that measures roughly 3 1/4" tall when assembled together x 2 1/4" wide x 1" deep. It is decorated with hand painted gilt gold deer on either side. I suspect that this dates to the early Chinese "Republic" period but cannot say for sure as I have never had one of these before. The condition is excellent. There are no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines, dents or bruises.
