Gorham Art Nouveau Sterling Silver
Martele Berry Bowl Made 1898 Floral Bud Motif Item # 102
Presented is a
stunning Gorham Martele sterling silver Art Nouveau Berry Bowl or Bowl with a
great hand hammered finish and floral bud motif running up the sides from long
winding stems. This beautiful piece is marked for 950 fine sterling silver with
an item code of 102 and a date mark for silver made in April of 1898 taking a phenomenal
64 hours to make with skilled hands and a noted chaser of Henry B. Stehr. I
have placed a picture of my research in the photos above. This item is mared
for 950/1000 or .950 fine silver; American standard sterling silver is .925
fine, so there is slightly more silver in this alloy. It has no dents or dings
and only some slight wobble on its four bulged feet with some fine scratches
from gentle use and care and some previous minor salt spots that can still be
seen though very light. It does have a scratched identity mark next to Gorham
mark on the bottom of 254 but has no monogram and a scratched engraved stock or I.D. number next to hallmark on the bottom next to hallmark. This is an outstanding piece
excellent for display in the finest collections or an excellent piece for any
number of table settings and uses.
I have an
interesting assortment of items listed so please look at my other auctions.
