This over 133 years old original antique chromolithograph is taken from the famous work of Willkomm & Schubert
"Naturgeschichte des Pflanzenreichs nach dem Linnéschen System" (Natural History of Plants after the 'Systema Naturae' by Carl Linnaeus),
published by J.F.Schreiber, Esslingen und Munich/Germany, 1887.
Heinrich Moritz Willkomm (1821–1895) was a German academic and botanist.
"Systema Naturae" was one of the major works of the botanist, zoologist and physician Carl Linnaeus, and introduced the
Linnaean taxonomy. Although the system, now known as binomial nomenclature, was partially developed by Gaspard and Johann Bauhin
200 years earlier, Linnaeus was first to use it consistently throughout his book. The first edition was published in 1735.
The full title of the 10th edition, which was the most important one, was Systema naturæ per regna tria naturæ, secundum classes,
ordines, genera, species, cum characteribus, differentiis, synonymis, locis (translated: "System of nature through the three kingdoms
of nature, according to classes, orders, genera and species, with characters, differences, synonyms, places".
