THE ARMENIAN CAMPAIGN 1877: A DIARY OF THE CAMPAIGN by Charles Norman, B.

Published by Cassell Petter & Galpin, London. Second edition; xx, 484 pages, 6 other folding maps and plans with some two color; original cloth darkened and rubbed, mark from book plate removal, general age toning with first few leaves detached or shaken, fair plus to good minus. Spine professional repaired and old remains of the spine have been glued back.

The author was a special correspondent for the Times but hardy an impartial one, he describes himself as an advanced philo-Turk who feels the fate of Armenia should be of little or no interest to Britain, as for the Armenian people, A more selfish, narrow-minded, mean, cringing race, I fancy, does not exist. Author appears very racist, as most English travelersand Generals around that time.

Book Condition: Good minus.

First edition is practically impossible to be found. 394 pages, including appendix. Valuable historical record of 1877 war. This is a scarce reprint book on the Turco-Russian 1877-78 war subject.

By the middle of the 18th century the borders of Armenia had become the point of confrontation for the ancient imperialisms of Turkey and Persia and the new imperialism of Czar Romanov Russia. One of the major wars between Czarist Russia and Ottoman Turkey was Russo-Turkish War of 1877-78.
