Spokane, WASHINGTON - 7 Bridges, 5 Waterfalls - Birdseye: This Linen Era (1930-45) postcard presents an overview of Spokane, a city first known as "Spokan Falls", was settled in 1871 and officially incorporated as a city in 1881. The city's name is drawn from the Native American tribe known as the Spokane, which means "Children of the Sun" in Salishan. Spokane's official nickname is the "Lilac City", named after the flowers that have flourished since their introduction to the area in the early 20th century. The reverse informs "Spokane is the headquarters for large scale agricultural operations, extensive lumbering activity and is the mining capital of the Pacific Northwest. This is an excellent view of its seven bridges and five waterfalls are located in the heart of the city." The card is in good condition. John W. Graham & Co., Spokane, Wash. No. 74181.
