Jefferson City, MISSOURI - Country Club -1913 - ARCHITECTURE: Jefferson City, officially the City of Jefferson and informally Jeff City, is the capital of the U.S. state of Missouri and the 15th most populous city in the state. It is also the county seat of Cole County. With 95 organizers, the Jefferson City Country Club officially formed in September 1909 and Missouri Gov. Herbert Hadley was the first president. A sickly man, Missouri Gov. Herbert Hadley sought outdoor opportunities for health as much as recreation. Elected as the state attorney general in 1905, he expected to move to a New Mexico ranch after his term. Instead, Missouri voters elected him governor in 1909.
