The koto (琴)is a Japanese stringed musical instruments derived from the Chinese zheng, and similar to the Mongolian yatga, the Korean gayageum, the Vietnamese dan traun, and the Sundance kacapi. The koto is the national instrument of Japan.[1] Koto are made from kiri woods. They have 13 strings that are usually strung over 13 movable bridged along the width of the instrument. Players can adjust the string pitches by moving the white bridges before playing. To play the instrument, the strings are plucked using three fingerpicks, worn on the thumb, index finger, and middle finger.
