Traditional Malaysian Breakfast Half-Boiled Egg Maker, the Original!

A very typical Malaysian breakfast of eggs is traditionally eaten half-boiled (soft-boiled) with soy sauce and pepper. Often accompanied by warm kaya butter toast and hot coffee, a couple of these freshly made half-boiled eggs mixed with soy sauce will satisfy your tummy and tastebuds, getting you ready for the day ahead!

Often eaten at home or at the “kopitiams” (traditional coffee shops) they make a simple yet delicious meal. Half-boiled eggs used to be prepared by pouring hot water into a bowl or jug with the raw eggs inside. You would wait for just the right time before taking the eggs out get the perfectly half-boiled eggs you love. Some like them runny while others like them slightly on the “harder” side, but mostly we all love them just in between. Hmm goldilocks?

An original Malaysian invention was made many years back, called the Half-Boiled Egg Maker, famously recognised by its signature yellow colour. It revolutionised and changed the way people prepared their hard-boiled eggs forever! Ok I might be exaggerating a bit here =p Nevertheless, it made a big impact in that no longer did we need to sit by carefully watching the minutes tick by hoping the eggs were done just right, or worse we were distracted and waited too long and they became hard-boiled eggs *gasp!*

The Half-Boiled Egg Maker makes no such mistake. Simply put in your egg(s) (preferably room temperature) into the container and pour boiled water until it reaches the indicated level necessary. Close the lid and voila! You can go about doing other stuff without needing to keep looking at the ticking clock. The water will slowly drain through a special hole at the bottom and once completely drained your eggs would be perfectly half-boiled, ready to eat!

There might be some variations, for instance, eggs straight from the fridge might need a bit more water, but you would soon learn (as we all did) and will be able to fine tune after a few tries. Ganbate!
