Fabrics explained

 

·       1oz DCF: DCF is composed of some dyneema threads (15X stronger than steel, quantity measured in “XT”) reacted into two sheets of plastic, giving it full waterproofness and extreme strength for negligible weight. 1oz DCF is as light as it gets and needs care. 200XT dark dyneema content.

·       1.43oz DCF is the same as 1oz DCF but 0.5g heavier and with a 500XT dyneema content. Shedloads of durability (used in bear bags) and is the one I use..

·       2.92oz DCF is 1.43oz DCF with 50D polyester on the face, it is used in rucksacks and is insanely strong. 500XT dyneema content.

·       Liteskin LS07 is 70D polyester with a non woven resin face, highest abraision-resistance to weight ratio of basically any fabric. Made by the guys behind XPAC

·       300D waterproof ripstop polyester: tough waterproof polyester with a diamond ripstop grid making it soft to the touch.

·       XPAC VX07: a 70D plain woven polyester face with a polymer XPly reinforcement, a 0.25mil PET film for waterproofing, and a 50d polyester taffeta backing.  Strong, but you can get way stronger for the weight so I personally feel it is overrated.

·       GXD gridstop. 210d nylon ripstop with super strong hybrid reinforcements. tough stuff.

Waterproofing:

This product has some water resistance as all the fabrics are waterproof, but they don’t have a waterproof zip or tapes seams, so moisture sensitive items need protection. Our other DCF credit card pouches have much higher levels of water resistance due to a waterproof zip and tapes seams, so if water resistance is important go for them.

About Wild Sky Gear

Wild Sky Gear was started by Skye McGregor, a British 15 year old who hiked Lands’ End to John O'Groats solo. I hiked through the winter and to keep my pack light started making my own gear and then sold some of the surplus. This turned out to be a bit more successful than I had anticipated, and now I’m constantly sewing.
