Organic Star anise is the star-shaped (usually eight-pointed) fruit of Illicium verum, an evergreen tree that is native to North-eastern Vietnam and South-western China. Organic Anise star pods are hotter, more pungent, more bitter, and much more “liquorice-like” than the European anise.
