Greeley-Howard-Norlin-Smith (est. 1854) is a family owned and operated land surveying and map making business based out of Illinois and Indiana.

Today we are pleased to offer to the public an exclusive opportunity to purchase the first batch of maps and plats from our extensive historical archives, which provide a unique perspective into the development of Chicago and its surrounding suburbs.

The original founder of our business, Samuel Greeley, personally worked with, then attorney, Abraham Lincoln as an Expert Witness in two land dispute court cases. We own a collection of drawing from before the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 that were used as courts’ exhibits in the above noted cases. It is well documented that Mr. Greeley prepared some of the Exhibits, as well as, copied and certified some other maps and plats for the courts. This collection will be available for purchase SHORTLY.

Our private collections contain many one-of-a-kind maps, plats, atlases, instruments, tools, and books that have never been offered for sale or even seen by the public. We believe our extensive collection to be the most complete in the industry. In fact, many of these rare items have no duplicates, with some exceptions that can only be found in select libraries and museums. All of our maps, plats, and atlases are authentic products drafted by well-known and respected craftsmen.

All of these items have significant historical value and impeccable provenance. Greeley-Howard-Norlin-Smith have been the owner of these documents since their creation. We believe that, based upon the above, we have the right to impose 20 years Copyrights restrictions on all sold items from the date of the sale, regardless of the age of these maps, plats, atlases, etc.

If you love history as much as we do - you’ll be fascinated by these maps. It’s a very rare treat for all history, geography, genealogy, maps’ enthusiasts to find this archive making its way into the world.

If you wish to purchase any or all of the original items in bulk and/or for reproduction purposes, please contact us – we will make you a fair deal.

As we are searching through old cabinets in our stuffed to the ceiling archival storage building, we are discovering new maps & plats every day. Please, visit our store often as we are going to add newly discovered items on the regular basis.
