Small RAIL-CART PLATFORM Orig Use HAULING MOLTEN METAL CAST & SAND 31" x 15"

How cool are these unique little rail carts!

A little Biographical/Historical notes. The Bartlett Hayward Company of Baltimore, Maryland, was founded in 1840 as Hayward and Friend, stove manufacturers. The company eventually expanded into the foundry, machinery, erection, and engineering fields and began manufacture of gas holders in 1876. The company merged with Koppers Company in 1937 and eventually became Kaydon. We were fortunate enough to be granted the rights to purchase these cool little vintage rail carts, and preserve their history, when Kaydon was purchased by SKF.

These were rolling bases used in sand casting many different types of parts. The impressions were made in the sand one layer at a time inside of a cast iron ring about the size of the cart. The stack of rings could be 2 feet high or more. Once the impressions are made, molten metal is poured down through the sand to cast the impressions in some type of alloy. Once cooled, the rail trolley was rolled to the end of the track and dumped into a hopper to continue cooling.

The wheels roll nicely. I have them in Square at 21" x 16.5", 31" x 15" and also, I have them in 20.5" round platform as well. The span between the wheels where the rails sits, is approx. 10.5". I currently have 1 of each for listing purposes, but I will have more coming in few weeks, they currently still have buckets loaded on them at the factory full of alloy, and I'm waiting for them to clear them off the slag buckets so I can pick them up.

IF YOU NEED MORE CARTS THAN I HAVE LISTED PLEASE INQUIRE, I HAVE MORE RAIL CARTS IN THIS SIZE AND ADDITIONAL SIZES AND SHAPES, RECTANGLE, SQUARE AND ROUND

What a neat little affordable garden ornament or architecture. You could throw down a few "I" Beams and make a cool little ride for the kids, or transporting heavy equipment around your shop or garage. If you need more than 1, as I mentioned I have more coming, just reach out to me. The weigh between 65-85 lbs.

About Us

Md Architectural Rescue is a different type of recycling company. We have operated in Baltimore and surrounding areas since 1996. After starting out rescuing fireplace mantles and cast iron door locks from construction dumpsters, we have opened our eyes to may types of waste that are often over looked and fall through the cracks. Our focus is and always will be vintage items of the highest quality. But with our eyes now open we put a lot of effort in bringing you high end collectibles from every industry available and at a very reasonable price. All our items are salvaged and are for the most part American Made. One week we could be in an old School, Brewery, Factory, and the following week at a  Shipyard or Power plant, you just never know. Also, one day we may be removing Vintage lighting, the next day Signs and Vintage blueprints and the following day cleaning out a machine shop or high end parts room. We literally have NO idea what we have coming around corner, so make sure you add us to your favorites and check back often.
