It typically matures in a rounded mound to 7-9’ tall and as wide. 

 

Showy flowers in axillary clusters bloom along the stems from mid- to late winter. Each flower has four, narrow, ribbon-like, curled and crinkly, bright yellow petals (each to 5/8" long). Calyx is maroon-red with green tinting. Flowers are fragrant.

Ovate-rounded, dark green leaves (to 3” long) produce minimal yellow fall color.

Medicinal use of Witch Hazel: 

Witch hazel bark is a traditional herb of the North American Indians who used it to heal wounds, treat tumors, eye problems etc. A very astringent herb, it is commonly used in the West and is widely available from both herbalists and chemists. It is an important ingredient of proprietary eye drops, skin creams, ointments and skin tonics. It is widely used as an external application to bruises, sore muscles, varicose veins, hemorrhoids, sore nipples, inflammations etc. 

Edible parts of Witch Hazel: 

Seed - raw or cooked. An oily texture. The seeds are about the size of a barley grain and have a thick bony coat.  A refreshing tea is made from the leaves and twigs.
