A harmonium, also called a "melodeon", "reed organ" or "pump organ", is a keyboard instrument that is a lot like an organ. The Tabla is a popular Indian percussion instrument used in the classical, religious music of the Indian subcontinent and in Hindustani classical music. The term tabla is derived from a Sanskrit word which means "drum".
A tabla set consists of two upright drums – one large and other small, played with hands. The smaller drum is known as Dayan meaning right and the larger one is called Bayan meaning left. The wooden pegs between the braces and the drum maintain tension in braces which in turn help in controlling the pitch of the drum.
Since 18th century, tabla has been the principal percussion instrument in Hindustani classical Music where it may be played solo, as accompaniment with other instrument and vocals, and as a part of larger ensembles. Tabla is also frequently played in popular and folk music performances in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Afganistan and Srilanka.
The tabla is also an important instrument in the bhakti devotional traditions of Hinduism and Shikhism, such as during bhajan and kirtan singing. It is one of the main qawwali instrument used by Sufi musicians. Tabla also features in dance performances such as Kathak.
