The image of Thomas Jefferson pictured on U.S. #1033 is based on a Gilbert Stuart painting that is now located in the Bowdoin College Museum of Fine Arts in Brunswick, Maine.

The Liberty Series

Issued to replace the 1938 Presidential series, this patriotic set of stamps honors guardians of freedom throughout U.S. history. Eighteenth century America is represented by Revolutionary War heroes and statesmen such as Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Hamilton, Henry, Jay, and Revere.

Definitive Stamp

A definitive stamp is a stamp that is issued to serve as an all-purpose stamp, and is produced for an extended period of time (weeks, months or in many cases, years). They are almost always part of a series of stamps, called a definitive series, where a wide range of denominations are issued. The entire series may be issued at one time, or they may be issued over a span of years. Most definitive series of stamps concentrate on a specific person or office (such as a president, monarch, or prime minister) or a specific theme (such as flags, buildings, or occupations).

COIL STAMP

Coil stamp is a type of postage stamp sold in strips one stamp wide. The name derives from the usual handling of long strips, which is to coil them into rolls, in a manner reminiscent of adhesive tape rolls. Coil stamps first appeared at the beginning of the 20th century.  A large percentage of modern stamps are sold in coil form, because they are more amenable to mechanized handling in large quantities than either sheet stamps or booklet stamps.

Slogan cancels

A slogan cancellation is a machine cancel in the killer box that is combined with the usual circular date stamp postmark and contains a brief message. Slogan cancels sometimes may be referred to as "advertising" cancels, although the slogan is usually some sort of public service message with no private commercial purpose or intent.
