This is a deciduous vine that is native to the south central U.S., ranging from Louisiana and Texas north to Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri and Oklahoma. 

This variety may bloom up to three times in a growing season once established, producing beautiful, foot-long racemes of fragrant white, pea-like flowers in abundance upon woody twining stems.


Flowers give way to pendant, velvety, bean-like seed pods (4-5” long) which ripen in autumn and may persist into winter.

Medicinal use : None known


Edible parts of: The fresh flowers are eaten in tossed green salads. They are said to be excellent when dipped in batter and fried in oil as fritters.
