The flame Amur Maple is one of the best small trees you can grow. It is tough and hardy in even the coldest areas and is an ideal choice for smaller gardens, or for foreground planting on larger properties.

It rises 15-20 feet with a spread of 15-28 feet and a lovely rounded crown. It can be allowed to grow into a large shrub or pruned to a multi or single stemmed small tree.

It begins its colorful display in early spring, when fresh green leaves begin to emerge, and holds it throughout the summer. As autumn approaches the leaves change to orange and then a vibrant bright red, giving a brilliant display .

In comparison to the species, its leaves are more lustrous,  distinctively three-lobed with a long central lobe and a better red (although variable) fall color.

Other uses of : The leaves are packed around apples, root crops etc to help preserve them. Black, blue and brown dyes are obtained from the dried leaves. The leaves contain the dyestuff quercetin. They also contain about 30% tannin.

Edible parts : The sap contains a certain amount of sugar and can either be used as a drink, or can be concentrated into a syrup by boiling off the water. The syrup is used as a sweetener on many foods.
