This is a truly handmade Sterling silver gents ring that sports a band that is made to look like a watch band, style # 288 of my online selection catalog. This bold style of band is a work of art by the file, the saw and the torch. The face of this style displays a solitaire gemstone held by a bezel. The heavy band tapers towards the back and is quite comfortable.
The feature gemstone is a handsome violet blue Iolite, an untreated natural, pleochroic gem. This one is a color similar to Tanzanite. This is a hand faceted rectangle measuring 8 x 6 mm and weighing 1.45 carat. The clarity is VS eye clean. Also known as Cordierite, Water Sapphire and Viking Stone, this gem is thought to have been used in slices by Vikings as polarizing filters for navigation. With a hardness of 7-7.5, Iolite is suitable in many types of jewelry.
The six accent Sapphires are 2.5 mm eye clean rounds with nice sparkle since they are cut well.
These accents are heated only by the traditional method. Sapphire is the birthstone of September.
