Molecular formula: C20H12O5

This is 10g - 250g Fluorescein powder (fluorescent dye), packed in Ribble Valley UK, supplied in a heat sealed foil pouch.

USES

  • Trace dye in water / sewage leaks
  • Biochemical research
  • Health care applications
  • Air Sea Rescue
  • A fluorophore in microscopy.
  • Uses in river systems
  • In a type of dye laser as a gain medium.
  • Oilfield application
  • In forensics and serology to detect latent blood stains.
  • In yellow smoke devices.

  • For tracing the direction of flow of water or to where a drain pipe runs, the recommended dilution rate is approx. 20g to 1 litre of water.
  • The liquid is then used at a rate of 150ml-250ml per 500 litres of drain water, depending on the ground conditions.
  • Approx. 100g of drain dye will treat 12,000 litres at 150ml per 500 litres and up to 8,000 litres at 250ml per 500 litres of drain water
  • Fluoresces under black light.
  • Does not require UV light.

Fluorescein is a fluorescent dye which is used in a number of different applications in sciences and medicine. In pure state, fluorescein is a red or orange powder which is dissolved in alkaline solutions to make up a yellow solution which will glow green.

In medicine, this compound has a broad range of uses. Ophthalmologists use it in eye exams, staining the eye with the dye to look for signs of tears in the cornea.
