EARLY 20th CENTURY AMERICAN MADE VIOLIN: 14th CENT. ITALIAN WOOD! READ MORE !!!!

Made in 1912 by J.L. THOMAS OF LONG BEACH, CA.

The greatest part is, there is a note signed by the maker. It is included in the sale. You can read the note In the second to last photo.

The writing is hard to make out, but the most important part goes like this:

“The material for the top of the above violin came out of an old Cathedral called San Mateo which formaly (sic) stood In Victor Emmanuel Square in Firenze, (Florence,) Italy, And is over 400 years old. The back is Italian Maple and is over 50 years old.”

It goes on to talk about how the top and back were acquired by Mr. Ettinger of the musicians supply company in Boston, Massachusetts.

You can read the rest on your own, and see that it is signed by the maker in 1916.

23 1/2“ x 8“

Beautiful looking instrument, you can see photos were there is wear, The tail piece needs replacing, and there is a crack near the top of the tailpiece going vertically under the strings. See last photo.

I have spoken to an expert in the business, and who has had a stringed instrument shop in Glendale, California for over 40 years. He said that the crack is repairable.

Also, needs to be restrung.

The beautiful antique case is included in the sale.

If picking up locally, please pay cash.

With repairs done, the expert valued it at $3,000.
