Pierre-Balmain
1914-1982

Pierre-Balmain
born May 18, 1914 in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, died June 29, 1982 in Paris, is a French fashion designer
who created his own fashion house in 1945.
He directed it until his death in 1982. Christophe Decarnin, in particular, succeeded him.

Pierre Balmain participated in the Second World War: he was mobilized between 1939 and 1941. Released, he returned to Lucien Lelong where he met Christian dior . At that time, he created a little crepe dress, called “Petit Profit”, which Lucien Lelong did not want to create but which despite this was a certain success since 300 copies were offered. Pierre Balmain opened in 1945, with the support of his mother and former Balenciaga workers, his own couture house. At this time, he presented his first collection: the dresses and suits perfectly matched the shapes of the body. The tones he uses in his creations are particularly dark and sober
 it's kind of his trademark.

Immediately his works met with great success. He creates the black sheath worn by Juliette Gréco for her wedding. He traveled a lot and at that time embodied French elegance. He created a perfume following his first collection which will be called "ELYsées 64/83", a second in 1947 "Vent Vert" and a last "Jolie Madame" in 1949. He decided to give the name of his last perfume for his Autumn - Winter 1952-1953 collection.
He published his autobiography in 1964: My Years and Seasons.
