Wroclaw Hand Chased & Hammered Solid Silver Cup with Shell and Foliate Design
Hallmarked MI c1710
Presented is a beautifully
hand chased and hammered large beaker cup with a detailed foliate motif design
around a scalloped shell. It is hallmarked on the bottom for silver made in
Breslau Germany with a date mark for silver made between 1710-12 with a maker mark of MI. I have placed pictures in the
photos above of my research on these marks. German silver of this period was
usually made 13 loth or 813. ½ fine silver; American standard sterling silver
is 925 fine so there is slightly less silver in this alloy. It is in lovely
condition with only some pin-prick dings, no monogram, a scratched designate or
stock number on the bottom next to hallmarks and some fine scratches from use
and care. It is an excellent antique for the collector with a great patina of
history and age.
Measure: 4 3/8” inches high, 3 ½” inches wide across top, 2 3/8”
inches wide across bottom

is hallmarked on the bottom with a city mark for silver made in Breslau Germany / Wroclaw Poland circa 1710 with a
maker mark of MI and an import mark, I have placed pictures in the photos above
of my research on these marks
Condition: some pin-prick dings, no monogram, out of round rim top, a scratched designate or stock number on the bottom next to hallmarks and some fine scratches from use and care.
