This is a truly handmade Sterling silver gents solitaire ring in style #146 of my online selection catalog. This bold style ring showcases the gem well secured by a full bezel in a solid basket with an open back mounted on a doomed head. The flanking area of the band is highly ornate with ajoure work. The ajoure work is created by cutting away, primarily with a saw, not by adding wire or pieces that need to be soldered into place as that would be filigree. Ajoure is a higher art in the sense that it uses no solder thus maintains its beauty more easily. It requires more patience and expertise than wire work. The band tapers at the back and is comfortable like a classic style #52.
This colorful gemstone is a light blue Cambodian Zircon that was traditionally heated only. The solitaire stone is a 6.2 x 4.8 x 2.8 mm pastel blue with VS eye clean clarity and nice fire due to the good cut. The carat weight is 0.85. Zircon is not a common birthstone, however, is associated with April, September and December births. Zircon has a hardness of 7.5 on mohs scale it is well suitable in many types of jewelry.
The weight of this well built ring is about 4.1 grams.
