J scale refers to the 1:80, 16.5mm gauge model railroad standard, often treated in Japan as the same as HO scale, but recently named J scale.

The JNR Class EF10 is a Japanese DC electric locomotive operated by the Japanese National Railways from 1935 to 1983.

The EF10 was one of Japan's earliest domestically-produced electric locomotives. Designed using data gathered from previous electric locomotives operated in Japan, which were generally imported from the United States and Europe, a unified standard was intended to be set for future locomotives as these imported electric locomotives usually had reliability problems and a lack of spare parts as they had to be imported from overseas and the locomotives were imported in small volumes, with the Domestic Electric Locomotive Project started in 1925 in an attempt to get Japanese locomotive manufacturers to design and develop their own electric locomotives. The program spawned the EF52, which was used for passenger service; however freight locomotives were still being imported from overseas so a domestically-produced locomotive had to be designed.

Full-scale development of what would become the EF10 was started in 1932. Sixteen locomotives were produced in 1934, based on the EF53 design. Initially used to pull freight trains in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area, some other locomotives were used in the Osaka, Kansai and Chūbu regions, also to pull freight trains; in 1960 they were transferred back to Tokyo and stationed at Kōzu Rolling Stock Depot and used in the Hachiōji and Tokyo regions. Withdrawals began in 1975, while scraping began in 1979; all locomotives were withdrawn by 1983, having been replaced by EF15s on these regions.

EF10 35, located at the Kyushu Railway History Museum, is the only preserved EF10.
