1969 Wacky Packages Wacky Ad Series #28 of 36, SLUDGESICKLE, short perforation.

I will consider offers on this 100% AUTHENTIC WACKY PACKAGE ADS CARD THAT I COLLECTED MYSELF WHEN I WAS A BOY, CIRCA LATE 1960s/1970

This listing is for a 1969 Wacky Ad Short Perforation Version, Sludgesickle, as described below.

1969 Wacky Ads, are part of the history of Wacky Packages. Most people are familiar with the 1-16th series run from 1973 to 1976, but there was this first series...
The artwork from 29 of the 36 Wacky Ads were printed and distributed but redrawn for the 1973 series 2 set of 30. The similarity between both series can be seen. Wacky Ads are bigger, obviously, and the border has a lot of animation that goes with the sticker. The 1969 series are still primitive by todays standards,  like the 1967 die cuts, where they were meant to be separated from the border by the perforation after which the reader was advised to "wet  back and hold on to a surface for 10 seconds" to make the adhesive stick to a toolbox, locker, etc. There were no backs to peal when these were made, as is the case with those came later and were featured in a 1973 series.

This art on this card was painted by Tom Sutton (1937 -2002, RIP).  Comic book enthusiasts will likely recognize his name from his contributions to certain Marvel Comics publications as well as related endeavors, and of course, fans of Vampirella are familiar with Mr. Sutton and his work.   I have been told that these cards were conceptualized by 1992 Pulitzer Prize Winner, Art Spiegelman (famous for his graphic novel, Maus as well as Garbage Pail Kids and a tremendous variety of additional works).  It is my understanding that because of his long time relationship with Topps that Topps let him run with his creative ideas, this series being among his most famous... As I recall, at least 2 of the Wacky Packages Ad cards were discontinued because manufacturers of spoofed products sued Topps Inc.

Please examine both front and back photos before purchase.  I believe that the condition of this card is  Very Good, (PSA4 or SGC50).  Here is the definition of Very Good (VG/EX) per an official card grader site:  "Corners on a VG/EX card will show wear and may have light creasing near the edge. Centering must be 80/20 or better. A light wrinkle or minor crease may be evident on the reverse of the card. More serious print issues and cards with wax or other discoloration or stains will also fall into the VG/EX grade but never higher than that".

THIS CARD MEETS OR EXCEEDS THE ABOVE DEFINITION.

As shown in the photos, you will note that this card does not have any creases.  There is however a little bit of light, superficial discoloration in several locations on the front of the card,  with almost all being located near the front right corner.  Though the discoloration mentioned above is somewhat visible without magnification, most folks, who typically enjoy the artwork and humor don't notice it. There is a white to whiteish stirp on the back of the card in the lower left corner, it is about 1/3" long and perhaps 1/64th inch wide, it is not very noticeable.   The glue on the back of this card is intact and the card has never been glued, taped or othrwise attached to anything.

The
photos of this card were taken with manual settings on my phone, set to BEST SHOW THE SLIGHT DISCOLORATION so that you will have an accurate impression of the actual appearance of the card.   I believe that the card will look BETTER than in the photos, as I took the photos to show the minor discoloration, not cover it up!   That being said, THIS CARD LOOKS GREAT  Since 1969 i
t has not seen daylight until I took photos of it this month, July of 2022.

Good luck, and thank You for looking at this offering!  :)
