The National Treasure of Shorinji Temple, the eleven-faced Kannon Bosatsu statue, said to be from the late Nara period, was brought out of Nara Prefecture for the first time and exhibited at the Tokyo National Museum. Until the Edo period (1603-1867), this masterpiece from the Tenpyo period was the principal image of Omiwadera Temple at the foot of Mt. Miwa. This exhibition brought together for the first time in about 150 years its eleven-faced Kannon statue, as well as other Buddhist statues originating from Omiwadera, including the national treasure Jizo Bosatsu statue from Horyuji Temple.
