1554 Petrarch Poetry Triumphs
Italian Il Petrarca Venice Vellutello Woodcuts MAP
Petrarch was a 14th-century
Italian humanist known for his discovery of the letters of Cicero and
establishment of the study of humanism. He wrote sonnets and poems, many of
which were the model of poetry during the Dark Ages. This exceedingly rare 1547
edition of the works of Petrarch includes his ‘Triumphs’ with commentary
and notes by Alessandro Vellutello, a 16th-century Venetian author
who was perhaps best-known for his commentary on Petrarch which first appeared
in 1525.
