Brief History: 50 paise (Originally = 1/2 half Rupee = 8 ANNAS)

India issued  50 "Naye Paise"-Nickel coins from year 1960 to 1963 and issued "50 Paise"-Nickel & Copper-Nickel coins from year 1964 to 1990. From 1988 till 2003, India minted Stainless Steel 50 Paise coins regularly. After gap of 3 years - 2004,2005 & 2006, India issued 50 paise of coin for year 2007, which was last in the series. For 2008 and 2009, India issued 50 paise coins with changed design with 'fist'. Again in 2011 India changed the design of all the coins: Rs. 10,5,2,1 & 50 paise, with NEW DESIGN WITH "RUPEE" SYMBOL " R " IN HINDI(UNLIKE "$" FOR DOLLARS ETC.) So far India has issued 50 Paise coins for alternate years: 2011, 2013 and 2015. India  also issued many 'Commemorative' coins of 50 paise coins to commemorate various Indian  Great Events and Great Men in Copper-Nickel and just one coin in Stainless Steel commemorating 50th Year Of India's Independence with Mahatma Gandhi marching.

India’s Monetary system until 1957 was 4 Pice = 1 Anna, 4 Annas = ¼(Quarter) Rupee-25 PAISE NOW, 8 Annas = ½(Half) Rupee-NOW  50 PAISE, and 16 Annas = 1 Rupee. After 1957, it changed to Decimal Coinage and initially issued "Naye Paise" in various denominations as all other countries throughout the world issued before changing to Decimal coinage. And then finally from 1964 changed to "Paise".

India issued "Naye Paise" and "Paise" coins in denominations of: 1, 2, 3, 5, 10, 20, 25, and 50 paise.

India minted its coins in Bombay, Calcutta, Hyderabad and Noida Mints. India also got coins minted from countries like Ottawa(Canada), Brimingham(UK), Kremnica(Slovakia), London(UK),Mexico, Pretoria, Taegu(Korea) etc.

Every mint has a distinct ‘mint mark’ on each coin, except Calcutta  Mint, which has no mint mark.

Most of the coins offered here are from Bombay, now MUMBAI(Small dot/diamond under the year)), Calcutta, now KOLKATA(No mint mark), Hyderabad(Star under the year), Noida(Big dot, deeply embossed) and Ottawa( C under the year).

THIS MAY BE YOUR LAST CHANCE TO HAVE A LOT OF OLD INDIAN COINS AT REASONABLE PRICE.
