This work consists of 284 pages with four colour illustrations, 195 black-and-white photographs, 81 line drawings, 34 diagrams, and five maps and plans. Dimensional information is provided on all locomotives owned by the GSWR from inception in 1845 until the 1924/ 5 Amalgamation. Similar information is included on the fleets of the companies taken over between 1866 and 1901. This book is the result of a research project started in 2011 and has involved exhaustive investigation of original records in Ireland and Britain.
