This is a small LF and HF reception only active antenna, great if you are limited by space. Excellent solution when it is difficult to install a half-wave dipole or you want to avoid potential objections from your neighbours. This is the third incarnation of my antenna with very high OIP3 of more than 35dB compared to the original 28dB. You can listen to similar antenna at the University of Twente PI4THT web SDR website. Designed and made in England.

Specification:

Frequency range: 10 kHz – 30 MHz (-4dB)

Max supply voltage: 14V

Supply current: 38mA @ 12V

Power consumption: 450mW @ 12V

Second order output intercept point: > + 78dBm

Third order output intercept point: > + 35 dBm

Noise level: < 1dB

What are the benefits of this design?

-The most popular design of a small active HF antenna, the board measures only 105x36mm

-High quality double side PCBs

-Bias-tee PCB included to power the antenna through coax cable

-High OIP3. The antenna features the best in class components: high IP3 transistors, noise suppression ferrite beads and NP0 capacitors. I have tested 16 transistors and various bias points to find the perfect combination.

- thermal and reverse polarity protection, space for an additional ESD device

- only C0G (NP0) Murata ceramic and OS-CON polymer capacitors used in critical circuitry

- 4 ferrite beads + 8 capacitors for extra interference suppresion

- tinned pads for additional copper adhesive tape or wire to further increase sensitivity

-three BNC connectors included

- designed to fit quality waterproof antenna and aluminium bias-tee enclosures

Designed to fit quality waterproof antenna and aluminium bias-tee enclosures. Note: version with enclosures included will soon be listed on ebay.

The antenna can be powered through the signal coax cable via the supplied bias tee PCB or directly from a 9V battery. Note for the best performance recommended supply voltage is 12V.

Included in the box:

- assembled double side antenna PCB (105x36mm)

- assembled double side Bias Tee power supply PCB (50x22mm)

- 3 BNC connectors (not soldered)

- comprehensive instruction

You will only need some coaxial cable+BNC connectors, enclosures (can be even a yogurt bottle) and a 9-12V power supply to get it working.

Why high OIP3 is so important?

It basically indicates how well the amplifier performs in the presence of strong signals. The higher IP3, the more you will hear near strong signals. There are many very strong broadcast stations in the HF band, that makes the IP3 so important. On the other hand noise level is negligible and becomes an important factor in the VHF design.

Postage:

Parts are packed an ESD bag + bubble envelope + cardboard envelope and posted the next working day.

Delivery to Europe usually takes 3-6 working days and 10-14 days to the US.

Please contact me if you have not received your item within expected time. It probably got lost by the post.

If you buy more than one piece the postage price is automatically adjusted. I will combine postage if you buy diffrent items from me and refund you the diffrence.

Note: I print postage labels at home and have to send the parcel by the end of the next day as shown on the example below. Please bear this in mind when rating speed of my dispatch and postage price.

About me:

Hi, I am Mike an I am an electronics engineer. Electronic design and construction is my passion. Everything I sell, I initially have built for myself aiming for the best results and quality. My PCBs are already highly regarded and I use the very best components available. Part of the fun is dealing with people around the world, so drop me a line if you have any questions, need help, anything goes wrong, or you want a custom design.

Please contact me if you are unhappy about anything before leaving neutral or negative feedback. eBay view both negative and neutral feedback in a negative way and any poor feedback can be extremely bad for a trader, so the opportunity to rectify any issues you have, however big or small, would be greatly appreciated before it reaches this stage. This will also allow me to ensure any problems are not repeated in the future. When leaving feedback on eBay please remember that the postage / delivery charge also covers for packaging materials, labels and time spent packing the item.
