Description

INDIA'S GATEWAY : GUJARAT, MUMBAI & BRITAIN

by TIM SMITH

Pub. Northern Arts Publications 2016.

Hardback.

163 pages, illustrated.

Produced to accompany an exhibition tracing the history of Gujarat and Mumbai as age-old centres of migration and trade, focusing on their remarkable links with Britain.

When sailing ships from London reached Gujarat in 1608, the region became the first point of contact between Britain and the Indian subcontinent. It was the beginning of an extraordinary relationship that endures to this day. The relationship changed Gujarat and its people, who themselves have profoundly altered the fabric of modern-day Britain.

The words and images explore the lives and experiences of Gujarati communities today.
