The Odaimoku (Namu Myoho Renge Kyo) embodies the essence of the Lotus Sutra and is a very important practice in Nichiren Buddhism and Tendai Buddhism as well. by chanting and paying veneration to the Odaimoku, it is as if one chants the whole Lotus Sutra and receive all the benefits of it. Through the power of reciting this, one can attain Buddhahood. The Odaimoku means "Homage to the Wonderful Truth of the Lotus Flower Teaching".

In Nichirem Buddhism, the main object of reverence is the Gohonzon, but one may also use the Odaimuko or even painting of the eternal Buddha.
