ANTIQUE AMERICAN PRIMITIVE TURNED WOOD PLATE TREEN.

Nice hand made turned wood plate from the 18th century. Owned by 18th century Massachusetts resident Barnabas Howard. Howard was born in 1730 in Plymouth County, MA. I purchased the plate from a respected auction house in the same county. Along with it came one other treen plate and three pewter plates from the 18th century. I assume owned by the same family. The plate is dated 1755 in pencil on the back next to Barnabas’ name. He would have been 25 in 1755. He is recorded as having been a soldier in the American Revolutionary War. He would have been 45 at the start of the war. Today this would have been a bit old to be a soldier but during the Revolutionary War men of this age commonly signed up to fight. He may have brought his trusty wood plate along with him on the road to battle. It’s impossible to know. I’m not sure where the date of 1755 comes in unfortunately. We can say it’s a fantastic early American antique owned by an early American hero. I’d say anyone willing to fight for their freedom is a hero without taking into account their actual actions during the war. The plate looks great on display anywhere and tells a real story of humanity and food throughout time. An excellent thing not only for the primitives/antique collector but also for the lover of Massachusetts history or the kitchen. The plate is 8” across and in age appropriate condition. Ships ASAP!
