Designed by France’s Louis Bechereau, 8472 were produced from 1917. Flown by the 22nd Aero ‘Shooting Star’ Squadron scoring 44 victories vs 16 losses in aerial combat. 4 pilots became aces credited with 38 victories - Lt. Jacquest Swaab with 10. Eddie Rickenbacker of the 94th ‘Hat in the Ring’ Squadron scored his 26 victories in a Spad XIII.
