This 505 page book features a collection of issues that were originally published during the 1980's which were considered gambles at the time; mini and maxi series featuring new characters and bold new takes on established characters. The book contains issues that are now considered ground breaking, such as the first issues of both Batman:The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller,Klaus Janson and Lynn Varley and Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons, as well as the first issue of Miller's Ronin series and the first issue of Camelot 3000 by Mike W Barr and Brian Bolland.

Other tales presented here include Infinity Inc by Roy Thomas and Todd McFarlane, the secret origin of Ambush Bug by Keith Giffen and Robert Loren Fleming, Nathaniel Dusk by Don McGregor and Gene Colan, Angel Love by Barbara Slate, Swamp Thing by Alan Moore and Steve Bissette, Sandman by Neil Gaiman and Mike Dringenberg,Doom Patrol by Grant Morrison and Doug Braithwaite and more.
