Chinese
Medical Psychiatry: A Textbook and Clinical Manual provides a
comprehensive text on psychiatry, connecting Western and Eastern
concepts in this field. It serves as a reference source for both Eastern
and Western medical students & practitioners as it bridges many of
the gaps between these two systems and motivates one to rethink ways of
addressing mental disorders in an integrative manner. This text is
divided into three "books". The first book presents a thorough
introduction of the theory & fundamentals of psychiatry in Chinese
Medicine. It discusses the history of Chinese medical psychiatry,
provides commonly used point and herbal prescriptions and discusses the
integration of Western and Eastern viewpoints. The second book addresses
21 of the most common Chinese Essence Spirit diseases ranging from
irritability to profuse dreams to epilepsy. For each disease category,
it provides sections for nosology, differential diagnosis, epidemiology,
etiology & pathophysiology, Western medical treatments, advantages
& disadvantages Western treatments, indications for referral to
Western medical services, Chinese disease cause and mechanisms, and
treatments based on pattern discrimination. The third book discusses the
treatment of 12 familiar Western psychiatric diseases with Chinese
Medicine. It provides the same sections as listed above for each of
these conditions. Diseases range from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity
Disorder(ADHD) to Bipolar Disorder to Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
(OCD).
