Super Bowl LVII Super Bowl LVII is the upcoming championship game of the National Football League (NFL) for the 2022 NFL season. The game is scheduled to be played on February 12, 2023, at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. It will be the fourth Super Bowl hosted by the Phoenix metropolitan area, with the most recent being Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, also held at State Farm Stadium (then called University of Phoenix Stadium).[1] The game will be televised nationally by Fox. A new system was introduced to select hosting sites for the Super Bowl, which began with Super Bowl LVI. The previous process that allowed cities to submit bids for the hosting rights was discarded. Arizona was the first location chosen under this process; its proposal was accepted unanimously on May 23, 2018.[1] The official logo was unveiled on February 14, 2022; it follows the updated logo template introduced by Super Bowl LVI, with imagery of a desert canyon and sky (the latter resembling Arizona's state flag) to reflect the landscapes of the host region. In response to state legislation adding restrictions on voting, as well as restricting access to some medical procedures and school sports participation from transgender youth in the sports teams of their gender identity, a number of public figures requested that the Super Bowl be moved out of Arizona, citing Super Bowl XXVII's removal from Tempe after the state legislature failed to recognize Martin Luther King Day as precedent. In February 2022, over 200 faith leaders, including Reverend Jesse Jackson and Reverend William Barber petitioned NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to move Super Bowl LVII out of Arizona in response to voting restrictions introduced in Arizona bills HB 1003, SB 1485, and SB 1819.[3][4] Arizona Democratic Party vice chair Brianna Westbrook also voiced her support to move the Super Bowl after the Arizona legislature passed S.B. 1138 and S.B. 1165, which restricts access to gender reassignment procedures from minors, and bans transgender girls, who were assigned male at birth, from playing on girls’ sports teams. Super Bowl LVII will be televised by Fox (per the three-year rotation between Fox, NBC, and CBS, the NFL's three network broadcast partners). Super Bowl LVII marks the final game to be broadcast under the current NFL television contract.[6] Fox will air the season premiere of Next Level Chef as its lead-out program.[7] This will be the first Super Bowl assignment for Fox’s new broadcast team of Kevin Burkhardt and Greg Olsen, who replaced Joe Buck and Troy Aikman this season, as they left for ESPN/ABC. Burkhardt and Olsen become just the third broadcast team Fox has used for their Super Bowl coverage, joining Pat Summerall and John Madden, who called Fox’s first three Super Bowls, and Buck and Aikman, who called the previous six, the first one with Cris Collinsworth. This will also be the first Super Bowl assignment for Tom Rinaldi, while Erin Andrews returns for her fourth Super Bowl, after calling her previous three assignments with Buck and Aikman. On September 23, 2022, Apple Music was announced as the new naming rights sponsor of the Super Bowl halftime show, replacing Pepsi, which had sponsored the previous ten halftime shows.[10] Some media reports alleged on social media that American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift would be the headlining performer, based on her associations with Apple and traditional Pepsi rival, Coca-Cola. Subsequently, various outlets reported that Swift had turned down the offer, refusing to perform until her re-recording process was complete.[11] On September 25, Barbadian singer Rihanna was announced as the headliner of the halftime show. It will mark Rihanna's first live performance in over five years, and the end of her self-imposed boycott of the event, which she had instigated in solidarity with Colin Kaepernick.[12]
