IMP CAESAR - VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate bust right / PON MAX TR P COS VI, Pax enthroned left. 20mm, 2.74 grams. Struck before 87 AD? Mint in Spain imitating Rome mint (RSC 366; RIC 772). Carradice (Spink Numismatic Circular 1984) #84-5.

This coin comes from a well-defined series of large and well-made fouree (copper coins with a silver coating) coins. The coins are attractive, large and heavy (actually larger and heavier than the official coins) and were all made in a unique style, probably at a local "unofficial" or "semi-official" mint, perhaps because of the lack of coinage in circulation. These fouree coins were published by Carradice articles in Spink Numismatic Circular, Sep. 1980 and Dec. 1984.

Ex-CNG; Ex-"Collection of a Texas Wine Doctor"; Ex Classical Numismatic Group XXX (11 June 1994). Comes with the original CNG ticket from 1994, with the price listed as 75$/50£.
