FINE ART AUCTION
Item description
Landscape
The offered artwork is tempera and oil painting depicting a
riverside with figures, signed Seurat, in the lower margin of the artwork and
Gallery stamped on verso. Georges Seurat is chiefly remembered as the pioneer
of the Neo-Impressionist technique commonly known as Pointillism, or
Divisionism, an approach associated with a softly flickering surface of small
dots or strokes of color. His innovations derived from new quasi-scientific
theories about color and expression, yet the graceful beauty of his work is
explained by the influence of very different sources. Initially, he believed
that great modern art would show contemporary life in ways similar to classical
art, except that it would use technologically informed techniques.
Dimensions approx.: 26 x 19 cm, unframed
Marked and stamped on verso from the previous collection. Acquired in UK. The condition of the artwork is very good, as pictured. Offered as is, after the artist.
The present is an alluring image composed in early Impressionist style and it is especially captivating when seen on display.
