FINE ART AUCTION

Item description

Man

The offered artwork is red charcoal drawing of a man in a profiled pose. The artwork has a collection/gallery stamp on verso and annotation in pencil which in our opinion belong to the previous collections this artwork was part of. The artwork shows motives of Old Masters era artworks and is possibly a study for a larger painting or engraving.

Dimensions approx.: 28 x 20 cm, unframed

Marked and stamped on verso from the previous collection. Acquired in UK. The condition of the artwork is very good, as pictured. Offered as is, after the artist.

The present is an alluring image composed in early Renaissance style and it is especially captivating when seen on display.

Ancient gods and goddesses, daring heroes, mighty rulers and magnificent creatures star in the drawings and prints by Renaissance artists. Literally meaning rebirth, the term Renaissance describes a period of renewed interest in ancient Greek and Roman knowledge, literature, and art in Europe during the period between 14th to 17th century. As Renaissance artists endeavored to emulate and surpass renowned ancient masters, they studied antique sculpture and architecture, using them as models in the portrayal of the human body, classical myths, and historical events. Artists also adapted ancient legends to create moral and political allegories, and depicted Renaissance royalty in the guise of ancient rulers.
