1700 ENGLISH Epictetus &
Simplicius Ancient Greek Moral Philosophy Stanhope
“What upsets
people is not things themselves but their perception about the things.”
― Epictetus
Epictetus was a 1st-century Greek philosopher, one of the
most important classical era theoretical philosophers. He is primarily
remembered for his thoughts, which were eventually published under the titles ‘Discourses’ and ‘Enchiridion’. Much of his moral thought was rooted in practical
philosophy which is present in this 1700 English edition of Epictetus’s works
by George Stanhope. In addition to Epictetus, Stanhope included the
Neoplatonist philosophy of Simplicius – “Epictetus,
his Morals, with Simplicius, his Comment”.
