📢STORY TIME📢
The Ilmor-Chevrolet 265-A is a turbocharged, 2.65 L, V-8 Indy car racing engine, designed and developed by Ilmor, in partnership with Chevrolet, for use in the CART PPG Indy Car World Series between 1986 and 1993. The Chevy Indy V8 engine has all but owned the Indy 500. Five pole positions, four victories in a row, and over a two-year unbeaten streak on the PPG Indy Car World Series circuit. The 1992 PPG Indy Car World Series season was the 14th national championship season of American open-wheel racing. Bobby Rahal was the national champion. He won four races and three poles en route to the title. Rahal's three oval wins included a dominating wire-to-wire victory at Phoenix, where he led all 200 laps. Rahal fielded the Lola/Ilmor Chevrolet "A" combination (Chevy V8) with which he managed to outperform the newer engines that joined the series in 1992 as the Ford/Cosworth XB and the Ilmor Chevy "B" engine. The same happened to Al Unser Jr. who won the 1992 Indianapolis 500 driving a “Chevy-A" which was the fifth consecutive (and final) Indy 500 win for the 265-A. This is also known as the “Closest Finish” in Indy 500 history. 1992 was the final championship for the Ilmor Chevy A engine and that year Chevrolet was also awarded the Manufacturers' Cup.
