block "Ukrainian currency - hryvnia" The monetary system is an
integral part of an independent state. After the proclamation of the
Ukrainian People's Republic, the Ukrainian Central Rada began to create its
own monetary system. Thus, March 1, 1918 was the date of birth of the hryvnia
as the currency of the independent Ukrainian People's Republic. The first
hryvnia banknotes appeared in circulation on April 6, 1918. These were
denominations of 25 and 50 rubles. The revival of the hryvnia as
a currency began with the restoration of Ukraine's independence in 1991.
Already that year, the signs and design of the banknotes of the independent
state were developed. The national currency of Ukraine - the hryvnia - was
introduced on September 2, 1996. Specification:
