Brigid’s Cross also known as Brighid’s Cross or St. Brigit’s Cross, 

is an Irish symbol which purpose is to keep evil, fire and hunger from the home in which it is displayed. 

It's a small cross usually woven from rushes. It consists of a central square surrounded by four arms at right angles and adorns the doors and rafters of Irish homes, 

usually in the kitchen, warding off fire and evil.
