I call this gem 'California Wheat'. It's a heavy cushion-cut cab. Check out the weight - 12 carats. She's been on the market too long, so there's been a price reduction. In it, you can see a thick figurine of gold standing tall.  Stone like this is a big reason why I got into GQ in the first place.  Slightly-domed over the top, flat on the bottom, it's exact origin in California's Sierra Nevada Mtns. is unknown.          

As the operator/sole proprietor of Gold of Eldorado, I actively mined gold for 18+ years. Beginning long ago, in a past life, perhaps, something in the golden mystique of this rare, precious metal attracted me to it. VANISHING GOLD

It's nerve-wracking as you grind away on a stone and suddenly realize gold just vanished from a key location on the surface.  Accentuating visible Au inside a cab is the lapidist's goal, so seeing it suddenly de-materialize does dampen one's spirits. Now maybe you understand a bit more about the process of finishing and fine-tuning these cabs.
 

 Many of the gems I make from gold quartz are 'collector stones' - sub-species found in only one, distinct geographical location on planet earth. Such ores may not exist anywhere else in the world! That's a rather dramatic assessment, yet quite plausible. Similar gold-bearing rocks may well have been discovered elsewhere, yet those who came across them failed to make their existences known. With this 'wheat-type', once my scant supply is gone, I for-see no more like it on the horizon.
