This book introduces Japanese tea room (Cha-no-yu houses) architecture with numerous drawings.The book has a unique feature: at the end of the book, sample chips of sliding door paper and koshi-bari paper (to be pasted on walls) for tea rooms are included.
Chapter 1: 170 examples of plans of tea rooms ranging in size from 1.5 to 8 tatami mats. They are all of historic Tea rooms. Overhead views of famous tea rooms are also included.
Chapter 2: Drawings of famous tea rooms (about 13 examples) that have survived, based on actual measurements
Chapter 3: Drawings of famous tea rooms (about 11 examples) drawn from literature
Chapter 4: Details of the tea room architecture, including the ceiling, windows, nijiriguchi, tokonoma, mizuya, pillars, etc., are introduced with photographs and drawings.
All content is written in Japanese. The names and photo/drawing captions of the tea rooms and brief descriptions of some teahousesare also written in English.
