Description

This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver gilt three piece bachelor tea set/service consists of a teapot, cream jug and sugar bowl, with matching sugar tongs.

Each piece of this silver tea set has a plain circular rounded form onto a spreading foot.

The surface of each component is embellished with impressive bright cut engraved stylised floral and foliate designs, incorporating circular vacant cartouches.

The upper portion of each piece is further ornamented with a band of engraved interlacing foliate ornamentation, incorporating simplified floral heads.

The upper rim of each piece is encompassed with an applied ribbed border

The bachelor teapot is fitted with a hinged hallmarked cover surmounted with a ball style finial, in addition to ornamentation reflecting that of the body.

This Victorian silver bullet style teapot is fitted with the original C shape handle, accented with a plain scrolling thumbpiece in addition to engraved decoration to the anterior of the handpiece.

The impressive antique teapot has a swan necked spout enveloped with further simplified engraved motifs.

The sparrow beak cream jug is fitted with a cast sterling silver C scroll handle with a scrolling lower terminal.

This tea set is accompanied by the original hallmarked sugar tongs, ornamented with decoration reflecting that of the tea service.

This exceptional service was crafted by the renowned London silversmith George William Adams of Chawner & Co.

Condition

This antique silver bachelor tea set is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The bright cut engraved decoration is all very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of each piece and interior of the tongs, in addition to the part hallmarks to the interior of the teapot cover are all very clear; the hallmarks are struck deeply due to the exceptional gauge of silver.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of these examples of Victorian silverware.
